What We Spent in Kyrgyzstan

When we started our world trip we made one crucial change in our life. We decided to record all of our spendings down to the penny. This has helped us know exactly where our money is going. In addition, it helps us know if we are under or over our budget. The following numbers are for 2 people. For reference we spent a total of 27 days in Kyrgyzstan.

Lodging

ecuador, budget, Cambodia

Our spendings were a total of $218 on lodging in Kyrgyzstan. Part of this is because during the first week in Kyrgyzstan we stayed with Katie’s extended family. In addition, lodging in Kyrgyzstan was pretty cheap.

Food

ecuador budget

Food cost us a total of $354.84. It was cheap and delicious and we were able to go to the local market to get tasty salads, fruits, and veggies.

Activities

ecuador budget

Our total spending on activities was $324.26. This was mostly for tours, we went on tours where we rode horses, slept in yurts, and did a bit of hiking. We did a lot of hikes on our own, however, which saved us a lot of money.

Transportation

ecuador budget

Transportation such as taxis and buses cost a total of $76.18. We used the Namba app for taxi’s in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan has a pretty good system of buses connecting cities together. We even took one to Kazakstan from where we had a flight to Ukraine.

Shopping

Average

We spent a total of 27 days in Kyrgyzstan. During that time we had a daily average of $37.41. This is about $45 below our budget. It was officially the cheapest country we went to. Kyrgyzstan is overall a really cheap country. In addition a lot of the tourist activities are DIY. We saved money on lodging, food, and activities, and also didn’t spend much money on other things. Another thing which helped us was we were able to get a free flight into Kyrgyzstan on our Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card.

Takeaway

We had a really great time in Kyrgyzstan. The food is delicious, the people were very kind, and the mountains absolutely gorgeous. While we were in Kyrgyzstan we actually did not work with any companies. Mostly that was because everything was so cheap we decided to just enjoy ourselves instead of trying to save a few bucks.
