Recording Our Spendings

When we started our world trip we made one crucial change in our life. We decided to record all of our spendings down to the penny. This has helped us know exactly where our money is going. In addition, it helps us know if we are under or over our budget. The following numbers are for 2 people. For reference we spent a total of 18 days in Slovakia and Poland.

Lodging

ecuador, budget, Cambodia

Our spendings were a total of $425.03 on lodging in Slovakia and Poland. In general we found it more difficult to find quality cheap lodging the way you can in SE Asia, or Ukraine. We really had to jump back and forth between Booking.com and Airbnb. In addition, we tried to get places with a kitchen in order to save on food costs.

Food

ecuador budget

Food cost us a total of $486.46. Although not quite US prices, we did find that going out to eat was a bit more expensive than Ukraine or SE Asia, and tried to cook at home as much as possible.

Activities

ecuador budget

Our total spending on activities was $164.44. We did a bit of hiking on our own so these costs come mostly from museum entrance fees.

Transportation

ecuador budget

Transportation such as taxi’s, buses, and etc. cost a total of $430.67. This is higher than usual because we decided to rent a car and drive around Slovakia and Poland. It was a lot of fun, and allowed us to see and experience more of the countries, as well as avoid tours since we could just drive to the places we wanted to see.

Shopping

ecuador, budget, shopping

We spent $29.77 on shopping. This was mostly souvenir items, and other accessories.

Miscellaneous

ecuador budget

Miscellaneous items are such things as laundry, bathroom costs, and other things that do not fit into a certain categorry. We spent $1.15 on miscellaneous items.

Average

ecuador, budget

We spent a total of 18 days in Slovakia and Poland. During that time we had a daily average of $85.42. This is about $3 above our budget. In general we found Slovakia and Poland to be more expensive than other countries we have visited. In addition, we decided to rent a car and get to places on our own. This allowed us to save time and money, it also allowed us to do more things and as a result spend more money.

Takeaway

Our trip in Slovakia and Poland was much different than what we had done previously. We experimented with renting a car and driving around. Also, it was coming up on fall whereas we had been chasing summer as we went for most of the trip. Slovakia and Poland have some amazing things to discover, and we loved visiting caves, hot springs, and hiking mountains.
